Yellowstone Park takes on a completely different character in the winter, with temperatures dropping well below zero degrees fahrenheit. The animals are hard to see and the landscape is brittle, bleak and forbidding. And yet life goes on and indeed flourishes. The thermal phenomenon creates boiling pools of water in the midst of a frozen field which is a fascinating sight.
