One of the most delightful surprises was the Christiaan Barnard Museum. Not on most tourist itineraries, we found out about it and decided to give it a shot as it seemed quite interesting.

It was one of the highlights of our trip to South Africa. The entire experience, from the triage room in the then ER where the donor was brought in after a fatal road accident, to the OR where the actual transplant surgery took place, they have recreated the original scenes in painstaking detail. To cap it all, we also met the daughter of Marius Barnard, who performed the surgery on the donor.
