Hue is located in central Vietnam and was the capital of the Nguyen dynasty and thus the capital of the country from 1802 to 1945. It lies at the border of South and North Vietnam and being in South Vietnam it suffered heavy losses during the civil war. It is best known for the Citadel, which is the city and palace of the Nguyen dynasty, much like the Forbidden City in Beijing, although on a smaller scale.
